Starting a house cleaning business need not cost a lot of money. Some people operate their small cleaning business right out of their homes. In fact, a lot of house cleaners start off as solo entrepreneurs where they take on the cleaning jobs themselves and then expand with more helpers later. But no matter the size of the business, it is always a good idea to get a business license, insured and bonded. It not only protects your business, but also assures potential clients that you take you are operating a legitimate business as well. Insurance is for damage done to a property and bonding is for theft on the premise. Depending on where you are from, getting a business license can be very cheap. Furthermore, getting insurance with bonding is based on total sales. When you’re first starting out, this will be cheap. Once the business grows with more sales and profit, you can renegotiate the policy.

The actual equipment needed is just some cleaning supplies and you can probably find it already in your home or you can improvise with some rags. Some clients even prefer you use their own cleaning equipment but make sure you ask beforehand. If you offer green cleaning services, you can mix your own solutions in which case it will even be cheaper. By offering environmentally friendly cleaning services, you can actually demand higher cleaning rates.

Another cost that business owners have to consider is a marketing budget in order to get house cleaning jobs. Luckily, this as well can be minimal. Promotional flyers can be printed off a personal computer and if need be, you can manually draw it yourself. It will depend on your local bylaws if you’re allowed to distribute the flyers in mailboxes but you can also leave flyers in the shopping carts of grocery stores, its pin-up board, etc. This method does work but nothing is more effective than referrals and social proof of a job well done. But first off, you need that first client.

To get your first client, it actually does not need to be a cleaning job. You can offer other services such as yard work. This actually does not require you to enter the client’s home but shows initiative on your part. Go to a well-off neighbourhood and offer to rake their leaves for an agreed upon price. Do an amazing job and tell them you offer cleaning services as well and that you have a business license and you are insured and bonded. Leave them your flyer. This will undoubtedly leave a good impression and will lay the groundwork of trust for future cleaning jobs and referrals. Go off to the next house and offer to rake their leaves as well. This works especially well in a pricey neighbourhood as no one likes to be the last one withe the messy lawn. All you have to do show them your handiwork with the first lawn.

Starting a house cleaning business does not require one to have a lot of money. In fact, it is one of the easiest businesses to start. There are no more excuses so get started now!

There is a fundamental question you have to ask yourself when you’re setting up any type of business. What type of unique selling point makes your business stand out from others? Why should customers come to you instead of your competitors? If you can give people benefits in terms of better or cheaper service wrapped up in a unique concept then you can attract more house cleaning jobs from satisfied clients.

Once you come up with a unique selling point, it is time to wrap this theme up with a business name that will be memorable. Remember that the name that you are going to use will be the staple of your service as long as you are operating. It should relate with what you want other people to perceive in your business.

Many residential cleaning services use the owner’s name as the business name. This can be a good strategy to give it a more friendly face to the business. Or, you might want to brand the business on its own to sell later on if you wish to take it that far.

When coming up with a business name, you should brainstorm and come up with at least a few dozen names and ask the opinions of your friends and family. Frankly, they can act as your target market. What emotions come to mind when hearing these names? Is it one of trust, dependability, confidence? If your friends and family are not in the cleaning industry, do a blind test comparing your choices with that of other established local house cleaning businesses. Compare the results and what makes your competition special (or not special). Another thing to consider when coming up with a business name is if the concept is easily transferable to flyers and logos. Having some visual identity will help make your business stand out.

A lot of independent cleaners who are looking for house cleaning jobs might not be at the stage to start their own business but the concept of standing out amongst the competition is the same whether you’re an individual or an entity. Promote yourself and get paid handsomely for your unique selling point. Get thinking NOW.

There are few businesses that will let you reap amazing profits with little start-up capital. This is exactly the case with a green cleaning business. This is truly the type of enterprise that is made for the little guy in mind where pure work ethics will be rewarded.

All you need to be a professional cleaner are mops, buckets, brooms, bottle sprays, some rags and cleaning solutions. The home owner usually supplies the vacuum cleaner so you don’t have to lug around your own. This is to prevent cross contamination.

Cleaning supplies such as mop refills often come in bulk so be sure to stock up to minimize the costs. As for cleaning solutions, you can create your own natural anti-bacterial solutions and polishes. Natural cleaners are a better alternative to commercial cleaning products. Not only are they “green” and better for the environment, but they are better for your health as well. Home owners will surely be appreciative that they are not breathing in toxic fumes from air fresheners when natural flower potpourri and scented oils are better for your health. And since you’re on multiple cleaning jobs and using these products everyday, it is also in your best interest as well to “clean green”.

There is often a misconception that being green is more expensive. This is not the case, especially with cleaning products as natural cleaning recipes cost a fraction compared to the commercial version.

Vinegar is an all purpose cleaner that can be used on most surfaces. You just have to mix one part vinegar with one part water and put the solution in a spray bottle. You should always test a small area of the surface you’re cleaning. Vinegar is great for cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms. Some people might be turned off by the smell but it disappears after the solution dries.

Another great natural cleaning product is baking soda. If mixed with vinegar, it makes a great scrubbing paste for appliances. Baking soda is also great for absorbing odours. Before vacuuming, you can sprinkle baking soda onto the carpet to absorb any smells.

Finally, lemons are not only great its culinary value, but it can also be used for cleaning as well. Lemons are well known for their cleaning properties. That is why they appear on commercial cleaning products packaging. You can make your own lemon polish by mixing in equal parts lemon juice with olive oil. Use this to polish wood furniture and see it shine. It gives off a great smell too!

As you can see, green cleaning is simple and it’s cheap. Your cleaning supplies for your door to door cleaning jobs need not be expensive at all. Not only is it good for your health, but it is good for your pocket book.

Everyone wants their business to be successful and make lots of money and there is no doubt that the house cleaning business is one of the easier operations to run. But, there are still some things you should consider to make your company as successful and as profitable as possible.

One of the no brainers to making money with house cleaning is to maximize your profits with your efforts. This means, why clean for less in cheaper neighborhoods when you can charge for more in the upscale areas? Dirt is dirt.

The secret to making big money in house cleaning jobs is to target the rich neighborhoods by doing research. Research the average cost of houses in an area. Research the demographics in the area. Are the residents mostly professional individuals? Walk around the neighborhood and visit places like the dry cleaners and the local salon. Ask around and make contacts. These people may be able to give you insights to the neighborhood or actually give you client referrals.

Once you’ve researched your target area, call the big cleaning franchises and get quote estimates on how much they charge per square feet or per room. Do they offer any other special services? Are their quotes location specific? Do some covert work and ask a friend to phone on your behalf comparing prices for different neighborhoods from the same company.

After you’ve done your research, now is the time to put it all together. Here is where you can use your entrepreneurial skills to sell your cleaning services. What unique selling point do you offer? How can you make your business stand out from the competitors and attract customers? Do you use natural cleaning products? Do you use aromatherapy cleaning? Make a list and create a concept to sell your services under a catchy memorable business name. Create a price listing for all the services you offer. Create bundle packages, discount coupons, and loyalty programs that slightly undercuts your competitors.

As stated, the goal in running a house cleaning business is to maximize profits with cleaning jobs. The idea is to target the upper scale neighborhoods and create a large client base. Another way to increase your house cleaning hourly wage is just to get things done quicker. Research on cleaning tips that will save you time and physical effort. The free time can be spent on making yourself richer by accepting more cleaning work or just relaxing and enjoying yourself. That’s the beauty of running a successful cleaning business!

Do you ever dream of firing your boss and working for the best employer in the world, namely yourself? If the reality of owning your own business seems far-fetched to you, think again. With a little capital and some elbow grease, having the financial freedom and time to do whatever you desire is certainly achievable. So what is this miracle self-starting business? Simply put, it’s residential house cleaning services.

Why House Cleaning Is The Perfect Business Model

In today’s fast paced world, families are demanding more cleaning services. Married couples with children usually work and cannot handle the time and effort to run a household in addition to raising kids. They need the welcome relief of house cleaning help. It also goes without saying that single parent household would require domestic cleaners as well.

As the trend towards a faster paced society continues, the demand for house cleaning services will continue to rise. If you can fulfill the need of tidying and organizing households, the house cleaning jobs will come your way. Furthermore, the great thing about residential cleaning is that it is repeat business. Houses get dirty all the time. Be a trusted cleaner and you’ll be scheduling your clients on a regular basis.

Let’s face it, house cleaning is literally a chore for some people. But what is someone’s chore is your path to riches. Rejoice in the fact that people dislike house cleaning. This means more clients for you in a business that has extremely low start-up costs.

Get Your House Cleaning Business Started

If being your own boss and starting a business that is in demand sounds good to you, then it’s time to develop the business plan that will serve you well for the next steps to take. Some people will forge ahead into new ventures without much thought but as simple as house cleaning sounds, remember to treat it as a business. Even though the profit margin of running a company for yourself can be huge, you can lose money if you are not aware of your finances. Consider expenses such as transportation and inventory costs and decide on how much to charge your clients. You can easily find a point of reference by researching the large cleaning franchises in your local area and inquire as to how much they charge. You’ll be shocked as to how much you can earn for yourself by running your own house cleaning business.

Even though there are a lot of house cleaning jobs available depending on where you look, there’s still a lot of competition to land the best paying jobs. One way to set you apart from the other job seekers is to be an environmentally friendly house cleaner.

A lot of clients are looking for “green” housekeepers because they are aware of the toxic effects that commercial cleaning products have on the environment and more directly, on one’s own health. Therefore, when going on an interview to your prospective clients, you should have some tricks up your sleeve on how to clean effectively without using products that harm the environment or are bad for your health.

A lot of commercial cleaners and detergents are petroleum based. This is bad for the environment because of the pollution emitted through the refinement process. Also, petroleum is a limited resource. Alternatives to petroleum could be cleaning products made from vegetable sources which would be much better since that is a renewable resource.

Another thing to look out for especially in laundry detergents is the phospate content. Phosphate is used to soften water for the wash. However, if this gets into the waterways, it can promote algae growth which in turn causes pollution. If you’re going to be handling laundry for your clients, then stay away from phosphate detergents.

A very common disinfectant used for house cleaning is chlorine bleach. Obviously, it’s highly irritating if you breath in the fumes or if it gets into your eyes. However, that’s not all in how it can affect your health. Chlorine bleach contains trace amounts of a compound called organochlorine which has led to cancer is small animals. Therefore, it’s probably a good idea to limit your use of chlorine bleach and replace it with a healthier alternative.

One of the most useful green house cleaning ingredient is baking soda. If you mix a bit of white vingegar and water, it can be an all purpose cleaner and deodorizer. You can clean kitchen counters, refrigerators, and a variety of surfaces with this simple mixture. However, if you need something more powerful to disinfect, then you can use borax mixed with water and a few drops of lemon grass essential oil or tea tree oil to make the place smell nice.

A lot of people are afraid to use borax because it is toxic but it is an alkaline salt that can be found in nature. It’s also still much better than using commercial cleaners. Just let your clients know that you will take the borax with you when you finish your cleaning job so the kids and pets don’t get into it.

Even though people think house cleaning work is just manual labor, you do need to be aware of how to be environmentally friendly. Hopefully, with this knowledge, you’ll be able to add this to your resume and find a house cleaning job.

The holidays are coming and perhaps you are thinking about how to make things extra special this year. However, special is often associated with money and this extra cash flow is not something you might have at your disposal. However, don’t fret. After a few lean years, the economy is showing signs of renewal. Therefore, if you are thinking of making some extra money, now is the time to do it. For quick money, why not try jobs cleaning houses part time?

The holiday season, with there being big family gatherings and Christmas parties, people want their house to be looking at their best – but they don’t want to go through the trouble of cleaning it themselves. There is a spike of cleaning jobs to be done. If you are a regular housekeeper, there might be a bonus in store for you as well.

However, if you’re new to cleaning houses and considering giving housekeeping a try even if just temporarily to make extra money, then here are some tips on how to go about it.

Just ask around your network of friends if they know anyone who needs house work done for them. The best way to get this type of job is word of mouth. After all, for these quick one off situations, people rely on good recommendations. This is not exactly the type of job that requires a resume but someone to be trustworthy. And who knows, this one off job might turn out to be a regular thing that you can depend on for extra income.

When your task is finished, express how you would like to work for them again and refer you to their friends and family. These types of situations always snowballs and you’d be surprised how quickly that by putting a few hours of honest work will often lead to something more. If you’re a good worker, people come to you, especially during the busy holiday season.

The bottom line is that house cleaning jobs are good if you’re looking for extra cash for the holidays and you might even parlay this to something more permanent. There’s always a need to be filled this time of year for holiday parties and get together. So what are you waiting for, get your name out there and start looking.

Cleaning private homes is one of the least expensive businesses to start. It is basically supplying labor. The initial start up cost are simply, the advertising and a personal bond.

Being bonded is one of the best things a new company can offer the private homeowner. There is liability involved when entering a person’s home and trust is a major factor when it comes to a new company. A bond can be purchased from most insurance companies at a minimal cost.

The next expense is advertising. A new business owner may consider sending out mailers to a certain neighborhood. There is also the internet and Craigslist which is a free advertising tool that is very powerful.

In the beginning it is best to only offer the services of labor. This would require the homeowner to provide all of the tools and cleaning products. It saves the business owner from the cost of the chemicals and also will please the owner to know that the appropriate products are used in their home. It is not recommended that laundry services be offered as it is a huge liability for the business owner.

One of the biggest mistakes that home cleaning services makes, is that once they start hiring employees for cleaning jobs, they tend to allow more than one individual to clean a particular home. This is not a good idea, for if any items come up missing from the home, it will be difficult to hold the guilty party responsible for the items.

The one item that an employee should take with them to each location, is their own hand gloves. This can avoid an awkward situation.

The reputation of the company is what will lead to future business and keep existing customers requesting services. The wise business owner will always inspect the work of the employees and follow up with the customer regarding their satisfaction of the job.

A house cleaning business can be very rewarding and provide a great income for the owner and employees. The most important factor in a successful business is that it is consistent. The advertising is there each and every week. The service is quality, and the customers can feel confident that when ever they hire this company, they will get the same quality as they always have, as will anyone that they refer.

In today’s job market many people are realizing there’s no shame in trying to find cleaning employment. In fact not only are honest, professional and proficient janitors and housekeepers in demand but finding a good cleaning job can pay well and even grow into a good business. If cleaning sounds like an industry you would like to join then here’s a few tips for getting started.

Decide what kind of cleaning you would like to do. Basically there are two kinds – commercial and residential. Commercial cleaning has the advantage of being more regular as most offices will require your services on a daily or weekly basis whereas residential cleaning may be more flexible with your schedule.

Keep an eye on public announcements where many government offices post invitations to bid on cleaning contracts and other cleaning vacancies.

Show businesses how you can improve the first impression they make on their customers by maintaining a fresh and clean environment.

As for residential cleaning, introduce yourself in neighborhoods that likely use and will be looking for cleaning services. Keep in mind that this not only includes wealthy areas but older ones or working families may also welcome the idea of paying for a couple extra hands.

Visit real estate offices as they may know of new families in your area that are looking for a new cleaning service.

Don’t forget that your best advertisement isn’t on paper but in how clean you keep your vehicle and your person.

Be willing to provide a variety of services. Employment in the cleaning industry is rarely as simple as dusting and vacuuming. Many clients or employers may want you to wash windows, shampoo carpets, buff and wax floors, some outside maintenance or even do a little laundry. A variety of skills will give you preference and the advantage of being able to charge a little extra.

Maintain a reliable, honest work ethic. If your client is happy they’ll refer their friends.

Once you get started you may be surprised at the sense of satisfaction and accomplishment you can derive from being in the middle of the cleaning industry.

Today’s Spacious Homes And The Boom In House Cleaning Businesses

With the sizes of today’s homes that average 4 or 5 bedrooms, a living room and a recreation room, several baths and professional style kitchens, most families with or without children and working parents need a helping hand. This is where the ideas for starting a house cleaning business may be just the answer for those who have great organizational skills and don’t mind cleaning as a business. The new business owner finds their talents become sought after. Eventually they need to hire cleaning associates to manage additional work loads. This is how house cleaning businesses grow.

The Steps To Owning A House Cleaning Business

Before attempting to start this type of business, it’s necessary to create a business plan that includes the specifics of the work to be done, the pricing and business expenses if bonding, insurance or licensing is necessary. In most cases, licensing is usually limited to businesses. So, residential cleaning services may only require bonding and liability insurance. These are basically protections requested by clients who have valuables on premises. Although, cleaning businesses for residences are less complex, there are still a few issues that should be worked out before the first job is accepted.

House Cleaning Job Proposals and Terms of Service

The business owner needs to decide whether their services will be limited to per diem work or if a contract for long-term cleaning services is necessary. In either case, it’s a good idea to protect the business with a pre-written job proposal that outlines the duties that will be covered, the time and dates of the work to be done and the terms of payment. Don’t forget to include a proposal approval, signed by business owner and client. This insures both parties understand the terms of the proposed work and the payments to be rendered.

Advertising and Promotion

One of the most effective ways to advertise is the least expensive: a business card. Next, consider posting business cards and printed flyers locally and advertise in newspapers or online. Attract customers by offering a one-time discount.
