If you are contemplating the idea of starting your own house cleaning business, one of the biggest hurdles you will face is how to get new customers.  Since the cleaning business is based very much on word of mouth advertising and references, it can be hard to get those cleaning vacancies if you don’t have your first few house cleaning jobs under your belt.  Here are some tips on how to start advertising.

Since you are on a computer while reading this article, this means you have access to a computer and you know how to use the Internet.  This is good because more and more, people are using the Internet to find help.  Go to your local job board web sites and post your domestic cleaning services.

Also, you can use your computer to create your own flyers.  Some say these flyers need to be professionally done but this depends on your budget.  Frankly, a simple flyer will suffice and all you have to do is write it on a word processor software like Microsoft Word or even free software like OpenOffice Writer.  You don’t need any special skill but just use fancy text and a couple of pictures thrown in if you like.  Next, you will also need to print the flyers.  Again, you can use your own printer if you have one or go to the local office supply store and have them printed out.  Once you have your flyers printed, you can canvass the neighborhood you would like to work by frequenting the grocery stores, hardware stores, hair dresses, salons, restaurants and other places people congregate.  Now, depending on where you live, you might also be able to deliver flyers to people’s houses.  You need to check for yourself though as some places only the mailman can put anything in the mailbox.

If you have the advertising budget, you might also consider the most obvious which is to place an ad in the newspaper offering your service.  Your ad should be eye catching enough and convey the message in as few words as possible to save yourself money.

It can be hard at first to get house cleaning jobs but once you get a few customers your client base can build in a hurry.  All you need is the first few customers to give you good recommendations to their family and friends and your business will be well on its way.  Honest, trustworthy word of mouth is the best form of advertising, and best of all, it’s free.
